Breaking Borders

In late 2013, New York-based independent MY Entertainment launched an ambitious international strategy, forging co-development and first-look partnerships with producers and distributors from across the globe.

Mushroom Media was hired by veteran producer Michael Yudin to help promote and publicise MY Entertainment’s new global focus and the subsequent expansion of its development slate, which now includes a mix of award-winning US content and overseas formats.

“Mushroom Media’s knowledge of the international market has helped me to take MY Entertainment to the next level and position the company at the forefront of the global content and format business. Cheryl is tremendously respected, with very high-level relationships. Her combination of experience and market insight has proved invaluable in raising our profile on the international stage.”

Mushroom Media began working with TV veteran Paul Heaney in 2002 at the launch of Cineflix International. In 2020 BossaNova Media was launched.

This new content creation, funding and distribution company was created to leverage its global network of buyer relationships, built up over 35 years in media and distribution businesses, to create opportunities for ambitious producers looking to fulfil all opportunities to get their passions on screen

“Cheryl and her colleagues have become industry leaders and firm trusted friends that the BossaNova team love working with and appreciate to the full. Mushrooms are renowned to be packed with goodness and are highly respected in their field…so an apt name for the business! From a personal point of view Mushroom have just been integral to every job I’ve had since 2002. There’s no one like Cheryl and Jo, they are highly professional, direct, intuitive and gifted.”

RTÉ

RTÉ Programme Sales can take much of the credit for Ireland’s global reputation as a content powerhouse. The commercial wing of the Irish public broadcaster has done more to introduce the world to the richness and diversity of Irish programming than arguably any other organisation.

In fairness, it has great shows to work with — recent successes include Easter event doc Countdown to Calvary, wedding show My Big Day, Home or Away and multiplatform health-and-fitness format Operation Transformation.

“Since 2013, Mushroom Media has been instrumental in communicating RTÉ’s position and growing our profile in the international marketplace. Both Cheryl and Jo's experience in dealing with the international media is key, they have always delivered on RTÉ's PR campaigns which as a smaller niche distributor is invaluable.  It is an absolute pleasure working alongside Cheryl and Jo and we look forward to continuing to work with them on our future campaigns.  'When you need someone to ‘just get on it’ there is no better team than Cheryl and Jo.”

Chalkboard has been producing thought-provoking content since 2013. Under the creative direction of founder Mike Benson, the London-based indie has produced a string of dramas and factual series — Life Behind Bars, Logan High, Murder, Mystery and My Family — that take entertainment into fresh, surprising, frequently challenging territory.

In 2018, Chalkboard opened a substantive-based production outfit in Glasgow, reflecting its growing focus on seeking creative and commercial opportunities in the UK’s nations and regions.

“Cheryl and the team at Mushroom have been an amazing partner for us over the last few years. They manage to provide a best class PR consultancy to companies like ours without being in the slightest bit PR-like! (Cheryl only kisses on one cheek)”

Dramacorp

Jakob

Veteran Swedish-French producer Patrick Nebout (Midnight Sun; The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared) launched Dramacorp in 2016 in a joint venture with Jan Mojto’s distribution powerhouse Beta Film.

Nebout’s vision was to create “compelling and profitable drama” — a promise he is busy fulfilling with a slate of ambitious projects, including spy thriller Hamilton, sci-fi drama Rare and, most recently, short-form horror series Cryptid.

“There’s simply no other PR partner like Cheryl and Mushroom Media on the market. Professionalism, a strong sense of integrity, intuition and last but not least, likability and generosity, are key words when I think of the Mushroom folks. I have been working with Cheryl on all international communication over the years, always with great result and fantastic PR feedback. Looking forward to many more years of successful cooperation.”
